  1. Right so you’re telling me that not only do you pay for a meal you’re paying for a service charge which covers the cost of staff which is what the price of the meal is supposed to do anyway and not only that the money from said fee doesn’t even go to the staff

  2. Nothing will change. I’ve been in similar situations before. The customers will come in and express their sympathy for you and outrage at the business, but will still happily spend their money there. People will rarely even slightly inconvenience themselves in order to back up their claimed ideals.

Edit: My favourite example, used to work in a pub that had permission to use disposable plastic glass so people could take their drinks outside of the beer garden and onto the grassy area across the pub, entirely a pedestrianised area. This was for basic health and safety reasons, can’t let glass filled with stupid juice onto areas with lots of children for obvious reasons. One customer pointed out that using disposable plastic wasn’t very environmentally friendly and didn’t approve. “Okay,” says I, “just get your drinks in real glass and keep them within the beer garden area.” “Oh no, I need them to sit over there so I’ll take the plastic”. So they were environmentally conscious, but not enough to have their drinks in a slightly different spot. Amazing.
