Germany and Italy want unity — if money doesn’t get in the way

  1. A “power trio” of Germany France and Italy would mean the possibility to alone dictate the eu agenda, quite an appealing thing. However, in 2023 we’ll vote and we’ll likely have a far (far far) right government which surely won’t pursue European integration, as it will largely composed by people who have explicitly advocated in the past the exit of Italy from the union. So it’s now or never

  2. Macron pushed to get the Quirinal Treaty done before the political situation in both countries turned unfavourable, now Draghi should do the same thing with Scholz before the 2023 elections come, to trace a perimeter to contain the crazy right wing populists.

  3. It’s good to see that North and South have come closer, now both France, Italy and Germany have very pro-EU governments. It might also help that the new Dutch government is more pro-EU and has expressed willingness to change the Stability and Growth Pact and treaty change in the coalition agreement, which would be unthinkable in previous governments.

  4. Lets hope this unity can help the north/eastern parts of Germany and Southern parts of Italy become more in line with the rest of the country.
