  1. I generally don’t care about tennis. But…

    Go Elina!!!

  2. Watched the entire match. Elina was huge underdog but that doesn’t mean anything when it comes to Ukrainian spirit, fight, will to win. The entire Wimbledon crowd cheered her every point. When she won her emotions were felt around the globe. The crowd went nuts! It was an emotional moment! As for the “neutral” opponent, when she was booed walking off the court, she raised her arms and shrugged like she had no clue why she was being treated that way! LoL Slava Ukraine!

  3. Well glad to see this matters after all. Two mods got in touch to remove my post, one because it didn’t matter, and one because I posted before a photo was even anywhere on the web. Wimbledon itself does not post results in a format with a url. After seeing weight lifters, and wrestlers and all kinds of other athletes victories posted on this sub, I am pleased woman’s tennis is here too and you can all share the excitement.

It was totally electric on the broadcast, with the audience roaring for the Ukrainian player during the 3 hour match.

And as I say, this is possibly THE best moderated sub on reddit.

  4. The commentators explained during the match that Elina Svitolena has refused throughout the tournament to shake hands with anyone from Belarus or Russia. Victoria Azarenka knew this and that is why she did not offer a handshake. It was one of the best matches I have ever seen and I was so happy to see Svitolena win the match in the tie breaker!

  5. Can someone give me the context on Azarenka being “neutral” in regards to something?

  6. Imagine the motivation she must have. Fuck Wimbledon for allowing ruzzian and belaruzian players.

    Good job Elina!
