Give the F-18 to Ukraine by way of Northrop Grumman for a quick tune up and retrofit…
He is correct, it’s too bad the US is too pussy-footed to provide the F-16’s needed.
The Australian Hornets are very capable platforms, and can fire most modern NATO missiles. Because they are made to land on aircraft carriers, their landing trains are rugged, well suited to landing and take-off from Ukrainian back roads.
Excellent choice for NOW!
Yes, these fighters would be a boost to Ukraines capability but I understand legacy FA18 is limited by legacy radar. SU35 can launch missiles before being detected by the FA18 radar. I did hear these AU FA18 might be getting some upgrades, radar perhaps. Hmm maybe sneak some Supers in with the deal.
I’d love to see some Aussie F-18s next to those Dutch F-16s as revenge for MH-17.
From previous articles there are three main problems.
1) These planes were already pushed past their expected lifetime, the Australian government is cautious about sending equipemnt that could be faulty. It’s one of the reasons why we haven’t sent Hawkies. If we send faulty equipment that results in the death of Ukrainians we would both be devestated.
2) We don’t really have the logistics to support their ongoing operation. So if we do donate them, we would need the help of allies to provide that.
3) Technically these planss have are under contract for dismantling. There is support from the government and new owners for this to be changed, but it’s still a roadblock.
