Looks like the trend of long reigning European politicians is coming to an end… First Merkel and now Rutte.
huh thats quite unexpected? What does that mean for dutch politics?
Inevitable. There would simply be no new coalition possible with Rutte as PM. Although I’m happy with his resignation, I can’t help but feel we’ll be losing seniority in the EU. Like him or hate, but Rutte is one of Europe’s heavyweight statesmen.
I know many of you hate him, but who do you think will do it better? Klaver? Wilders? Van der plas?
Finally an end to the decade of liberal dominance in the Netherlands. His replacement is going to be a right wing populist though
I am glad he is gone but the next elections will be very tensive. I hope I am wrong but I fear we’ll end up with a right wing populist at the helm.
On the international stage he always came across as one of the best leaders, but in national politics too many things have happened that have taken away his credibility. Many are happy but perhaps it is better to wait to see who the new Prime Minister is and how he represents himself on the international stage.
