It’s ok soon they’ll get rid of the human rights laws and soon we’ll all be distressed.
They don’t care about the rights of anybody but themselves and those who can do something useful for them. This just comes with a large dose of bigotry on top of it. I don’t claim to be an expert on the trans community but you don’t have to be to see how all they want is equal rights and access to the medical treatment they require in a timely manner. It’s not much to ask for and it is something we all want for ourselves, yet a decent number of people seem to think being trans is a choice or that they are deviant in some way, so do not deserve those as a result.
As a trans person I am… Slightly confused? Is this a *conservative-lead* cross-bench group advocating for self identification of gender?
Have there been legal tests of compensation for people distressed or otherwise harmed psychologically by unjust laws? Simple examples would be gay people excluded from marriage, criminalised etc. and today trans people being denied their self-identification and so on?
I believe that was the point of the governments approach. Distress until they enacted oppression, just as they did before with their favourite targets.
No surprise there, they only care about themselves and their buddies
The debate should’ve been does this cover enough and nuances of what resources are there for the new legislation and whats needed etc what can be delivered and when and how. Big debate in the details that isnt that exciting but important to get right for best delivery
But it ended up being ‘we need these rights but it doesn’t cover some of the waiting times and shortages of resources’ vs the counter argument to that being ‘are trans people evil and a predatory danger to society?’
Everything needs debate and discussion but that doesn’t mean the counter argument becomes a ‘good vs evil’ debate. Which always happens when minorities try and get crumbs of equality that others don’t have to worry about like the basic paperwork and fees required
At least the grand tradition of dry British understatement in the face of appalling human rights abuses is still going strong.
No fucking shit. I was terrified this morning awaiting the results of the inquiry into GRA reform. Absolutely terrified. What this country is doing to us is disgusting. And nobody cares. The vast vast majority of people wouldn’t even know about the inquiry. Love to tell you they’re pro trans rights but can’t do the most basic amount of vigilance and educate themselves on what is happening. It’s frightening. Of your support for trans people amounts to nothing more than saying you support us then it’s really not worth anything. You want to help, learn what’s happening and write to your mps, sign our petitions, talk to people about trans rights, tell them what a gender critical person is and the tactics they use to recruit. Because we are a fucking tiny minority that nobody gives a shit about and we can’t get healthcare without cis people, it just won’t happen. It was banned for under 18’s last year and I wonder how many who say they support us even knew about that. I sound angry because I’m angry, because I’m scared. We can’t do this, cis people can. I’d recommend following Katy Montgomerie on Twitter, and watching her YouTube show ‘the trans Atlantic call in show’ on the line. Also her own personal channel where she does a weekly show called terf wars which details all the horrible things that have happened to us each week. Talk to trans people and please use your voice to do more than say ‘it must be tough, sorry about that, I support trans people.’ Because we have no voice and the terfs speak in every newspaper, everyday.
Sorry for ranting, I’m just so fucking angry and so scared. You know a trans persona actually claimed asylum in New Zealand because of how bad our government treats us. We are laughably behind. GP’s don’t even follow WPATH guidelines and don’t even prescribe progesterone. Because they’ve no studies saying it helps. Because they have done no studies since 1990, it’s pretty much over the counter in the US. Our trans healthcare is so bad that it make US healthcare look like a dream.

They’re using trans people as a political punching bag for their culture war bullshit because these fucking vampire Tories are happy to cause serious harm to LGBT+ people if it personally benefits them, the hate campaign has really ramped up in recent years.
