  1. I’m gonna be that guy who is hated by the rest of ye.

The Simpsons wasn’t ever good in my eyes… It was only popular due to the fact we only had the 4 channels growing up, wouldn’t even watch the old episodes because its just so… Cringe…

  2. I heard a good point before that with the rise of streaming the sense of communal watching has completely changed. Once everyone watched the same thing, so you could just talk about it with a random stranger at the bus stop. Now, you can do that with people around the world but not the person sitting next to you. Unless it’s crazy big and the it thing at the moment (think Tiger King, Squid Game, Among Us), it’s just noise to most people.

  3. A guy I work with never watched the simpsons growing up, at all. I just can’t get my head around that. It was such a big part of my childhood and everyone I knew in the 90s and early 00s watched it to some degree.

I make so many references and then remember he dosnt know what I am talking about.

  4. I think I watched more Simpsons than most growing up.
My older brother would tape every new episode so we had them all taped. There’s piles of blank tapes in my parents gaff with these episodes on them. I used to throw them on in the background while I was playing with toys or eating dinner or whatever.

Also I might be getting notions here but I hold myself responsible for the rise of Simpsons memes in Ireland.
I started watching old Simpsons again around 2010/2011 and telling people it was better than Family Guy (very controversial opinion at the time) and that if you’ve only watched it as a kid you only got half the jokes.
I started being known as that Simpsons fella in my friend group.
I convinced about 5 friends to revisit The Simpsons, then they convinced more of their friends and then most of this age group spread around the country for college and brought their newfound Simpsons love with them.
About 5 or 6 years later I stumble upon a little Facebook page called Ireland Simpsons Fans.
I wouldn’t be too surprised if I caused this butterfly effect

  5. Then the parents brought in Sky. Simpsons on RTE, Channel 4 and Sky One. Think I was watching several episodes a night throughout most of the week.

Funny thing is, I have Disney+ with all the episodes yet I’d still rather watch it on the box. Nostalgia, I guess.

  6. I was watching it on Sky and Channel 4 (I think) way before RTE. It must have been 97/98 before it came to RTE and I reckon most kids and teens at that point had more than the Irish channels.

  7. I had to reign myself in from the Simpsons quotes there recently. I realized I had Simpsons quote for every occasion basically and began to question the depth of my own personality.
