White pupils have been excluded from extra weekend literacy classes at schools in North London, The Telegraph can reveal.
Parents at a primary school in Haringey have been told that schools will fund Saturday school places for children from black and black heritage families to “accelerate progress in reading and writing whilst also developing the children’s knowledge of black history and culture”.
However, no comparable offer was made for white pupils despite parents arguing that evidence shows white working-class boys have fallen behind their peers.
Schools in Haringey and Enfield are able to enrol pupils for the classes at the Nia Academy which has been established by the Haringey Education Partnership (HEP), a not-for-profit organisation which provides services to member schools.
The academy is described on HEP’s website as “a Saturday school for children of African Caribbean descent, starting with Year 4 and Year 7”. It states that “sessions are focussed on literacy, with a particular focus on texts that show representations of diverse cultures and communities”.
Students “develop key reading and writing skills identified in the national curriculum” and “are also exposed to a range of black fiction and non-fiction authors with a particular focus on the black experience”.
Parent: ‘Use resources to help any child who needs it’
A parent with a child at Coldfall Primary School in Muswell Hill, who was advertised the academy by the school, said: “Why should black and black heritage children get extra support in reading and writing when it is obvious to anyone with access to the internet that it is white boys who are doing worst academically and are being left behind and this has been going on for many years?
“Here’s an idea. Why not use these resources to help any child, no matter the colour of their skin, who needs help.”
Nia Academy tutors are paid up to £50 per hour to deliver the classes and must “share the same vision and preferably background as our students” to join the academy, which offers online lessons, according to HEP’s website.
Educational attainment is lower for disadvantaged British pupils who are white than for disadvantaged pupils in other main ethnic groups, an investigation by the Commons’ education select committee in 2021 found.
Figures from the Department for Education show that in England last year, 62 per cent of black African pupils met the expected standard of Key Stage 2 reading, writing, and maths compared to 58 per cent of white British pupils.
Haringey Council said that in Haringey, white British pupils significantly outperform black African and black Caribbean pupils in Key Stage 2 reading, writing and maths.
‘Schools infiltrated by groups teaching contested political beliefs’
Details of Nia Academy have emerged as a report by the campaign group Don’t Divide Us claimed that schools have been infiltrated by groups teaching contested political beliefs including “white supremacy” and “institutional racism” as fact.
Don’t Divide Us, whose advisory council includes Dr Tony Sewell, the author of a Government report on race, found that more than 100 schools are working with third-party organisations which are uncritically teaching contested political beliefs from critical race theory.
Of 49 third-party organisations providing teacher training or resources for schools, 48 were promoting contested political beliefs around race theory as fact, the research found.
The campaign group has warned that external providers could be breaching schools’ impartiality rules under the Education Act.
It is calling on the Government to commission an independent review of third-party organisations that provide lessons, materials and instruction for and within schools on contested assertions about race, gender and other contentious issues.
Odette Brooks, director of Leaps and Bounds Educational Services, a company which delivers the Nia Academy in partnership with HEP, said: “We run a number of programmes for all children who are underachieving as it is important for them to have access to provisions that will help them to make progress.
“We recognise that different groups of children have different needs. For example, we are in the process of thinking about how we can make the LGBTQ students feel more visible within the curriculum.
“The Nia Academy is targeted at black and black mixed students who are not currently making expected rates of progress. The aim is to provide literacy support as well as teaching them about black history, from a positive perspective other than slavery, but also celebrates positive black contributions to society. Although this provision specifically targets black children, if a white child really wanted to join we wouldn’t say no.”
‘Haringey has historic and established attainment gap’
Cllr Zena Brabazon, Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Schools & Families, said: “It has long been recognised in Haringey that there is historic and established attainment gap between black African/black Caribbean pupils and their white British peers.
“Our schools here in Haringey and the local authority are absolutely determined to collectively do something about those statistics. Our teaching staff go to great lengths to ensure that all children and young people, irrespective of their race or background, receive the very best education possible.”
She added: “The council has a number of targeted programmes for our young people to help them improve their attainment including the Nia Academy. We are open to hearing feedback from our community and consider how we improve our projects and meet the needs of all our children and young people.”
A Department for Education spokesperson said: “Schools are required to remain politically impartial and should be mindful of the need to not promote partisan political views to pupils.
“Political issues relating to racial and social justice can be taught about in a balanced and factual manner, just as pupils are often taught about a range of different views on other topics.”
HEP and Coldfall Primary School have been contacted for comment.
Yeah, cause anti-white racism under the guise of “Equity” is the latest cultural fad, especially in woke hellscapes like UK, Scotland, Spain, New Zealand, Canada, and several American states.
In New Zealand they’re even openly prioritizing people of color for medical care.
And if people are willing to put up with it and still vote for politicians who make and support these systems, then that’s their choice, but then odds are that it’s only their choice until they are directly affected by it, and when they are directly affected by it, that wonderful NIMBY (not in my backyard) notion comes into play and people start voting for the opposite extreme, and that’s how radical rightwing rises into power.
Seems lots of political parties have big issues with staying in the center. They either tend towards leftwing infinity or rightwing infinity, and infinities always end up pissing people off and making them vote the opposite.
It’s important to note that in this instance, all non-black students appear to be excluded rather than just white students. That’s pretty outrageous, I think.
So the Telegraph is intentionally misrepresenting events in its trademark style, but this time there is a grain of truth in the story.
Anti white racism is real and is apparently acceptable in western society. That’s what the cancer of far left identity politics leads to.
Imagine paying taxes for this.
How do we stop these morons pushing color instead of socio economic background and shit parents?
