There used to be an old maxim ‘Let sleeping dogs lie.’

It’s nice to have a sense of communal ownership of a pub but then there’s also very real ownership and at the end of the day Greene King can call it whatever they damn well please.
Ah, yes, the classic “I’m not racist but I will invest all of my free time campaigning to retain that derogatory name, despite the owner choosing on their own accord to do away with it”.
Fucking bampots
The Right: Free market, don’t tell business what to do
Also the Right: This business should do what we say

>“But the people of Linlithgow wouldn’t have tolerated it if the name had racist connotations,” Old added.
Chaser
>During the Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020, locals wanting to show support were subjected to online abuse
Anyone else hoping at this point that Greene King just decide to straight up call it Free the Paedos?
Imagine having so few things to care about that you campaign against a private entity trying to change their property’s name which is currently obviously pretty questionable unless you know local folklore (which like three people will). If the owners want to change it that’s up to them, you don’t own it, grow up.
Not fussed but people will still call it what they want.
Hell there’s a pub in Bradford that hasn’t been the bank for about 15 years when I’m home and off for a pint I still tell people I’ll meet them at the bank and they all know where it is.
Good. It has nothing to do with racism or sexism, people need to put sense before hysterical emotion. I have tourettes and dont find offense in the name of the local Twitchers club, I’m sure people can do the same here.
Just put up a painting of a black Labrador outside.
It’s not often you get a story which really is “PC gone mad”, but this is a classic example. Some jobsworth in GK head office, hundreds of miles away, looks at a name out of context and decrees that it’s racist, even though it isn’t and there’s a well known local story that explains the name.
