Reminder that while this amount of territory isn’t much, it’s a lot more than the Russian winter offensive. Those who are saying the Ukrainian counteroffensive has failed were likely the same people saying Russia would never invade. Yet it invaded. When Russia inevitably invaded, these people said “Kiev would fall in a matter of days”. Yet Kyiv didn’t fall. These types were also saying that Ukraine wouldn’t liberate Kherson during the Kherson counteroffensive. Yet Kherson city was liberated.
At this point, how can you trust these people? How can you consider them credible? Edit: World leaders such as Erdogan can see Russia for how weak it is, and is playing Putin like a fiddle. How anyone manages to unironically side with Russia at this point is beyond me…
always rated General Staff
edit: 169km2 equals 23669 football fields (the world unit for scale next to banana scale), thats a lot actually
“How did the Russian army collapse?” Bill asked.
“Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually and then suddenly.”
Liberating 169 km² is already a success but it’s just the start of a long path to victory. There will be set-backs, periods of seeming little activity and times of slow grinding hard bloody attritional battles. But the writing is on the wall for the Russian army. It’s slowly been worn down while there is a steady and increasing supply of munitions to Ukraine. The vast stockpile of 400 million 155mm DPICM shells will play a key role both in avoiding shell hunger and for clearing trenches. If the US sends only 1% of its stockpile, that’s still 4 million shells – a million shells a year for four years.
