There is such a book, The Rose of the World, a religious and mystical work by Daniil Andreyev, based on his mystical insights in prison. The book is known beyond mysticism lovers because it contains beautiful metaphors on the theme of history. And there is such a concept as the demon of statehood. Every stable state entity has its demon. I imagined it as just such an octopus. Since Russia has never been a free country, such a monster is primarily associated with it.
