  1. It enables Moscow to accuse Britain of having a double standard about illegally annexing territory. But the main thing is it enables Israel to illegally annexe territory without consequences.

  2. > The BDS movement is widely backed by Palestinians and anti-occupation groups in the UK. Israel sees it antisemitic

Which it isn’t, but they like to pretend it is because “you’re an antisemite” has proved to be a useful tool for smearing and bludgeoning people who criticise them.

The BDS movement is no more antisemitic than the boycotts of South Africa were racist. These boycotts are political tools designed to squeeze governments who employ inhumane and objectionable policy. If the policies stop, the boycotts stop.

The Israeli government likes to claim that they speak for all Jews (which is pretty funny considering that the assumption that Jewish people are naturally and inherently loyal to Israel is itself a longstanding antisemitic canard), but they don’t. One only has to look at the mass protests going on in Tel Aviv to see that.

  3. Not the first time Russia would take a page out of Israel’s playbook when it comes to obstructing critics.

  4. We cannot just ignore what Israel has been doing for decades though. It is not antisemitic to point out that bombing Palestine, denying its existence and refusing to negotiate peace in the region is incredibly unethical. Even if it emboldens Russia, Israel needs to face the consequences of its actions and if that takes the form of a global boycott then so be it. Israel knows what it is doing and can change if it so wishes to.
