kankerverwekkende stoffen lozen in het water, en dan dat water irrigeren over onze groenten….
Politicians doing PoLItiCs. Disgusting.
I’m not surprised and that’s probably part of the problem. Belgians > Flemings are generally disgruntled about this affair but tolerate this policy. Its something cultural.
Maybe dub this documentary in Russian and change all location names to soviet ones. People will be more comfortable thinking these things don’t happen in Belgium… Then reveal the truth…

I have seen the report and tbh I am shocked.
There was political interference in order to stop measures against 3M. The department heads were politically assigned, in line with the policies set out by the minister’s political cabinet. Environmental inspectors were told to ‘handle gently’ when inspecting the chemical and manufactoring industry.
Many testimonies were made anonymously by several (former and current) employees of the Flemish environment department, in which the hierarchy was accused of political meddling. The fines were ridiculously low for offenders, making it cheaper to simply pay the fines, instead of taking the necessary sanitary measures.
We need answers. Who was involved? We need names. Schauvlieghe’s cabinet, as this has been going on for 15 years? Demir as well, or not? In the Flemish parliament, Raedschelders (department head) had to answer questions, is she involved or not? Who covered this up?
Whomever put its pawns in place to ‘soften’ the environmental reports bears a huge responsibility.
I would like to know the political color of the people in charge of the ‘softening’ of reports and the intimidation of experts.
Why does Pano go as far as to say they’re of a certain political color, to then not reveal what that color is? That party (those paries) needs to be lynched (figuratively) for enriching a few corporations at the cost of our health.
Public servants are easy to make fun of but there’s thousands of inspectors in many sectors who are trying to make a difference against multinationals while their own management is only busy with political games to get their ass in higher seats.
The only thing the constant savings have resulted into is many of these people completely losing any motivation and leaving while the useless people are even more aggressively busy to get into management where surprisingly budgets are never cut even though that is where the overhead and incompetence grows over time.
“Wat we zelf doen, doen we beter” is starting to get a whole other meaning.
As said on a thread about them receiving money for ecological reasons: why are people shocked? Such companies get money and get the rules bent because of the amount of jobs they create.
This one just pushed it a bit too far.
Is there really nothing we as normal citizens can do about this? I’m not talking about voting and receiving the wrong feeling that we accomplished something. It seems like this crap will never change and we’re just living under a blanket from all the disgusting shit happening above it with political approval. Whilst the climate and we as citizens are the real victims of their criminal activities…
Imagine a politician being asked the following question on the “Zevende dag”: How much did you earn by selling my health, mr. politician? Probably will never happen, but things like this 3M debacle prove it’s a valid question.
If you want to see a nice movie about PFOS, I suggest watching the movie Dark Waters on Netflix.
The amount of damage these synthetic carbon chains can do is huge and we all have these permanently in our bodies.
