Russia Cuts Gas Supplies to Europe as Temperatures Drop – The Moscow Times

  1. Not sure how this fake news keeps popping here from this Dutch website pretending to be Russian. The EU gambled on spot prices when the prices were really low and didn’t want to set fixed long term contracts. Now that spot prices are high, they are crying foul. Russia is delivering gas to every single European country as contractually obliged to do. What do people want Russia to actually do? Provide free gas when the customer has not requested any?

  2. Copy-pasting my comment from /r/worldnews because this is literally fake news:

It’s not really “underhanded” for Russia to deliver the amount of gas that the countries have contractually agreed to. This has been confirmed by all parties: https://www.economist.com/europe/2021/10/16/it-is-tempting-to-blame-foreigners-for-europes-gas-crisis

    >Using less gas will be difficult, at least in the short term. But is it possible for Europe to get hold of more gas? One way is to try to bully Russia into exporting more. Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, recently praised Norway for helping with the gas crisis, but pointed an accusing finger at the Kremlin: “This does not seem to be the case in Russia.” But analysts reckon that the gas giant is actually exporting more gas to Europe this year than it did before the pandemic, and its big continental customers have recently confirmed that it is meeting its contractual obligations. There is little hard evidence that Russia is a big factor in Europe’s current gas crisis.

The real culprit is that production in gas-producing EU countries experienced a decline. Production in the EU fell by 22.5 billion cubic metres during the first six months of 2021. Gas storage facilities were underfilled by 18.5 billion cubic metres. And then to top it off, American, along with Middle Eastern companies withdrew 9 billion cubic metres from the European market and redirected their sales to Latin America and Asia. Russia, including Gazprom, have **increased** deliveries to the European market by 8.7 per cent compared to the previous year. In hard numbers, American and Middle Eastern companies undersupplied by 9 billion, while Gazprom increased its supplies by more than 11 billion.

So I’m very curious why the article is blaming Russia for the gas shortage, when Russia is the only country to have increased its supply of gas to the rest of Europe.

  3. Russia cuts gas and Europe goes to invest in another pipeline directly from Russia. How long until we see a nordstream3 deal?
