New North Sea oil and gas fields ‘will not meet UK’s energy needs’ | Fossil fuels

  1. For anyone saying “well we still need oil and gas” as a reason for opening new wells, this report is a good reality check. Headline figures:

    * The UK currently exports about 80% of the oil produced in the North Sea.
    * Fields now under consideration would supply at most an additional three weeks of gas a year to the UK, from 2024 to 2050, **even if none of the gas was exported**.

  2. I really do wonder how we can meet our energy needs at this rate.

  3. Nor will renewables alone. Get fucking on with nuclear and stop wasting everyones time.
