Greece used to have the same gdp ppp with Austria and slightly bellow Switzerland before the economic crisis happen(different populations though but still). With current trends it is going to outpace the countries on this graph again. Also investment grade will help us further. Nominally we have higher wages than those countries but during crisis asides real estate everything remained very expensive but wages had a free fall. Also out of experience 2008 is not comparable to 2019 despite same values. PPP isn’t a good metric. Even today we don’t have the prosperity we had then despite higher ppp per capita value. Nominal gdp per capita is better.
PPP is BS. It’s very biased
Romania soon surpassing Hungary in nominal gdp per capita is also interesting.
It would be so amazing if we could surpass Greece!
Look at Bulgaria go. Way to go neighbors.
Always GDP PPP and never median net salary.
I don’t care how much on average companies in those countries earn and profit from people’s work, i want to know how much real people get to live with.
Truth is, Romania is about to be THAT girl.
Most of the new EU nations have small populations, except Poland. Romania has more people than the Netherlands – they’re easily gonna be the dominant economy of that region, alongside Poland (ofc)
They comparing size of their pp?
Congratulations guys. Very proud on how you take benefit of being in the EU.
Hope this serve as enough evidence that EU economic convergence as result of common market and political unity is a good thing.
And Greece, don’t worry. You will recover. Thousand euros up or down is nothing.
Regards from Spain.
Romania should have been a powerhouse after 1989 if they had any competent leaders and not a mixture of corrupt russian shills + incompetent buffons that stunted our development. If 5% of them are honest i will eat my shoes.
I don’t think there is a country in Europe with this much un-educated politicians. Most of them have some kind of private university(in Romania they are filled with idiots and churn diplomas for morons who can barely write or read) because they could not pass the admission exam at the state universities. Some of them barely finished highshool. I’m not kidding when i tell you that the “class idiot” is a politician in Romania and somehow they managed to have multiple doctorates and master’s degree in their 40-50’s while working full time 🙂
What abandoning communism doesn’t do to a mf
Bragging like this is only going to piss off people.
Second. I don’t feel like it’s real. Yes, we made some progress with the infrastructure but on the other hand our taxation is stupidly high (42%). We lost a lot of people who went in west for better salaries and the ones left are over taxed.
Foreign workers stay here for a few months and then they run to western Europe also. If we get in Schengen I expect big problems.
We lack workforce and sallaries going up makes us less attractive.
Also, this growth is debt fuelled growth.
Romania is a train wreck waiting to happen . It’s like a drunk man stumbling and picking speed before crashing down.
i think personal consumption PPP would be more interesting
Ah the China way of calculating you’re not poor time to get on your knees for the great leader.
