I’ll go back a bit further and suggest St Patrick.
He is without a doubt the only universally loved English man in Ireland. A hero.
Give it a lash, Jack!
Jim Larkin? His parents were Irish but he was born in Liverpool
Conor McGregor
St Patrick
Michael Flately
Daniel Day Lewis

Non-Irish? Arguably. JFK maybe back in the day.
English? Probably not
Lesser known to then Jack but we’ve claimed Danial day Lewis as one of our own
