I’m completely lost as to why this story is getting so much attention
The third claim is the presenter broke lockdown rules to meet a 23 year old
According to a Twitter acquaintance it’s a gay witch hunt and every gay was doing this during lockdown.
Why should they come forward? It’s dubious whether they did anything wrong and Vine should keep his trap shut now, hypocrite.
Apparently the presenter hasn’t been named because of new privacy laws in place. Probably a good thing when allegations alone are enough to sink a career.
I really wish they’d just shut up and get the facts before even bothering to publish these articles.
I don’t like any public figure abusing their position of power as much as the next person, but I’d rather read headlines like “False allegations made against X” or “X did Y”, rather than weeks of drama, misinformation, and speculation.
All this does it overshadow other major issues that need the spotlight.
Not that I’m really bothered, but I’m surprised no-one’s figured out who it is yet. They’ve been suspended for a few days now, can’t be that hard to see who’s been off the air…
The snowballing continues.
Highlights from the third set: met up during lockdown (February 2021). Said the presenter was initially nervous about lockdown rules but then became “insistent” about meeting. The alleger felt quite pressured. The presenter allegedly made several payments in the region of £200-250 to the alleger, which made them feel “owned” by the presenter.
So, “two to tango” comes to mind with regards to breaking COVID rules. I always hate “allegations” like this – this person is an adult who could have stopped responding to/blocked the number of this presenter if they ever felt uncomfortable or “pressured”. Assuming money was paid digitally, they were happy to provide them their Venmo/bank details, obviously not considering how “owned” they would feel after the fact. Then they provided the presenter with their address so that they could meet up during lockdown.
The attempt to equate this situation with the initial allegations of paying a minor for sexual material is ludicrous. I think a shared feeling is that this is turning into a bit of a gay witch-hunt – the salacious gay trysts of a BBC presenter rather than any credible allegations of abusive behavior.
I’m out of the loop here, are they covering it on News at Ten?
