Ukraine Is Winning The Artillery War—By Destroying Four Russian Howitzers for Every Howitzer It Loses

  1. Dunno, ruzzia had a shitload of Artillery.

Let’s hope it is true and will cause breaches in their defenses soon.

  2. Russians would cheer if they were defeating their enemy 4-1. As an American, based on the amount of destroyed Russian artillery, I’m concerned about how much artillery Ukraine is losing. Loses are bound to happen in war I suppose

  3. But are their own lost Howitzers being replenished? This doesn’t look sustainable when you look at the absolute numbers.

EDIT: I hope the cluster munitions will be used in a counter-battery capacity to reduce the burn rate of plain shells and increase its effectiveness. This ratio needs to become better than 6:1.

  4. Plus wearing out their barrels by firing so much with little aim. Plus loosing trained crews while Ukraine by carefully firing gains trained crews. Plus increasingly a mobility advantage which will play a role when fire has to be concentrated in a specific area during an attack. Russia got a problem.

  5. There are a few key differences. First is that NATO allies have more guns to give.

Second is that the Ukrainian systems destroyed are probably the lower value ones: the high value ones aren’t getting hit. Russia doesn’t have such high value systems.

Hopefully those two conditions will tip the scales.

  6. I have a hard time believing the number that Ukraine has only taken out 600 big guns since the start of the war.

I can’t wait for Russian artillery to be so degraded that Russia is forced to resort to fighter-bomber attacks. Whether by sending them into the danger zone, or constantly running them to the point their maintenance fails, it’s going to get very expensive, very fast.

  7. It doesn’t matter how many guns Russia has if they’re running out of shells to fire

  8. Errr, 4:1 is not a good stat, not when Russia started off with 10,000 of the bloody things.

  9. Russia loses only 32 howitzers?!? I find that hard to believe. And out of 170 UAF vehicles lost the Russians only managed to show a video of those 5 at the very beginning? This seems fishy.

  10. I’m not sure if 1-to-4 is actually a winning ratio. I’d hope it was more like 1-to-10.

  11. I know war is a two way fight but I hate to think of any Ukrainian crews being hit.

  12. 4 to 1 sounds a bit low knowing that the ruski artilery is outranged by western howitzers.

  13. Always good given how much this is an artillery war, plus Ukraine overtaking regarding, tanks. Presently it’s especially pertenent. According to (one of my top three fav) war analysts, basically Western doctine being maneuver warfare, Ukraine set up for that first but quickly clear needed more attrition before then. Without air support they’re targeting artillery first, then (using cluster bombs to speed up impact) attacking main units. THEN its back to probing and attempting maneuver through /around Russian lines (with kept back Western armour). All planned for this year, hopefully all done successfully.
