  1. Turkey wont ve accepted anyways theres no meaning to supporting lol

  2. If Turkey joined the EU it would cease to be a country after 2 days when the Last Turk will have left for Germany.

  3. Yeah we will definetly “back you” . Surely not only because we know others will always veto.

  4. Even if Turkey stopped being Islamist, this is never happening. The average European is not gonna give a fuck if Mehmet or Hasan is a secular, they will see the country as potential 90 million Muslims having free access to the EU, the EU is never accepting a Muslim country in the union no matter what.

  5. Imagine the horrors they would do with a veto in the EU

  6. EU probably won’t even exist in 20 years, so Turkey should give up anyway

  7. I’m not quite sure whether Cyprus wouldn’t veto it.

  8. A ridiculous empty promise to make Erdogan look less ashamed

  9. Not that it matters, since Turkey isn’t even close to implementing the required democratic and economic reforms, let alone fulfilling the rest of the Copenhagen criteria and adopting the acquis communautaire. Even if they manage to do all that, they’ll just get vetoed by Austria, Greece, Cyprus, and any other countries who don’t want them in the EU. This is all just political posturing to give Erdogan a “win” back home.

  10. I bet you National Rally, AfD, Vox, Reform UK, Polands Confederation Freedom and Independence, League and more far right parties are all looking at this with glee. If Turkey joins euroskepticism will sky rocket. Expect more fragmentation and less freedom in Europe as the far right grows and nationalism becomes increasingly popular. We truly are living in a terrible time for liberalism, hardcore conservative will come at the expense of our rights and civil liberties. The times ahead are not looking great.

Turkey probably won’t join but even the prospect is good for these parties

  11. An EU bordering Iran and Irak is meaningless. And we all saw the shit they’re causing to NATO.

  12. Shameful, but at least its all bullshit since no other EU member will support them, no matter how “seriously” Sweden will back them.

  13. Greece and Cyprus will likely have the final say so I would not expect much.

  14. For any EU country itching to get back at Erdogan for holding Sweden’s membership hostage (and hundreds of other legitimate reasons), please line up behind Cyprus and Greece in the “exercise your veto power” queue
