It’s should explain everything about sex and relationships to these, let’s remind ourselves, 16-18 year olds.
So that the first time they have sex they’re not shocked by what’s happening, or aren’t in a position where their ignorance makes them easier to manipulate.
I look back on my first sexual experience and those of my peer group and we were poorly served by the sex education we received, it put us in vulnerable positions.
Based on my memories of school, it’ll probably just be a free class where people talk and do their homework once a week
Why is the TQ+ part a necessary component of sex education? Are they not just “identities”?

They can change the curriculum all they want; at the end of the day you’ll have teachers who teach it in an inclusive, respectful manner and those who give a free class or push their own beliefs.
Only this year they have brought in a SPHE post-grad, and bar the odd training day (which are seriously oversubscribed), many teachers who find SPHE on their timetable simply aren’t prepared enough to teach it. School management, for the most part, don’t take it seriously, and it’s rarely inspected or teachers held accountable for is being done in class, unlike mainstream subjects.
SPHE needs to be given the same respect as other subjects, with fully qualified teachers, more approved resources and oversight.
I really don’t give a shit, if they are curious about these things they will have already looked it up on the internet and probably found worse things than what’s in these programs.

Good. It won’t, but it should.
Needs to be more taught about sexuality, more consistently. Some people are gay, it’s good to highlight that fact and emphasize that it’s normal.
Sadly it does depend on the teacher and their level of interest and enthusiasm in the topic.
I’ve had gay people tell me they were simply dismissed/blanked by teachers for talking about being gay.
It’s not fair and can really affect people’s confidence.
Progress is progress.
Though in a context where 54% of 9 year olds have a mobile phone as per the ESRI, the sex education teenagers receive at earlier years is probably more crucial.

I wonder will the usual nutcases then go from calling librarians paedophiles to calling teachers paedophiles?
The nuns and priests won’t be happy.
This is going to make some people very unhappy.
