Ukraine war: German government cancels agreement for tank repair in Poland
The German government is pulling out of an agreement with Poland to repair Ukrainian Leopard tanks on Polish territory. This was reported to the Handelsblatt by persons familiar with the matter. The reason for the decision, which is to be officially announced in the next few days, is that the Germans believe the Poles’ price expectations are completely exaggerated.
At the same time, Ukraine urgently needs a way to make damaged Western-designed battle tanks fit for action again. The Ukrainian armed forces are suffering heavy losses in their ongoing counter-offensive. In March, after a long period of hesitation, the German government handed over 18 modern Leopard 2 tanks of the type A6 to Ukraine. Other European partners also promised deliveries, including Poland. But there is also a dispute about the Leopard A4 tanks delivered by Poland: of the 14 vehicles delivered, eight were damaged, it is said.
I suppose that Germany will do the repair, so everything is fine. Indeed I have a hihg degree of confidence both in Baerbock and Pistorius
Maybe Rheinmetall will repair and service the tanks in Ukraine? Would make sense since they are currently building a facility there

Why must all this stupid shit happen DURING the counteroffensive. Seriously Poland, fix your shit

In the end transport to Germany only adds 4 days if trucks are used and 10 days if the cargo is arranged by train. That’s only a little extra time for heavy maintance/repair. Small repairs will be done in Ukraine anyway.

That’s unfortunate. Even if we don’t take this reporting at face value it is clear to me that Germany doesn’t pull out of this deal without a good reason. Especially after Pistorius seemed optimistic they would reach an agreement in the near future.

It’s moving to Germany and Lithuania, yes
I just wish… the children would stop arguing.
There’s a common purpose at stake here that outweighs petty nationalism.
Europe – get your shit together.
very good
Odd. Sounds like one side, Poland or Germany, tried to alter the deal.
I personally am not inclined to see Germany demanding cheaper repairs after making an agreement. This sounds like Poland making a deal and asking for more money. But that’s speculation. And perhaps they have a legitimate reason to ask for more. We have to wait for the details.

I hope Ukraine doesn’t suffer from this.
