  1. That’s really bad. I’m not a doctor but I could diagnose that based on the first description alone!

  2. FYI I think they are hoping to train more people in these physician associate roles as they don’t need medical training as a background. I think they’re even exploring an apprenticeship type route for this or something similar. Not to combat staffing shortages, but because they’re cheaper to train, pay and can’t leave for another country because the qualifications aren’t transferable.

Expect more of this over the coming years, young, low paid medical staff who aren’t paid or trained enough to diagnose serious health issues.

    Conservative Britain, 2023.

  3. >>She believed she was speaking to a GP about her symptoms, but instead saw a physician associate, who gave a diagnosis of a sprained ankle.

    >>She returned in November and highlighted her additional symptoms of shortness of breath and a swollen and hot leg.

    >>At that appointment, the physician associate prescribed anxiety medication.

    …. anxiety meds…..

Theres something I’ve noticed and since I have I’ve seen it more and more.

    A few examples

My mum and her husband. There have been times they’ve both gotten sick and gone to the GP (separately). Her husband is prescribed antibiotics and stronger pain killers and my mum never given antibiotics or stronger pain killers… just told to keep herself busy or take Paracetamol if she needs to. They had the same symptoms…

My boyfriend. Went to the GP (pre covid) and was prescribed antibiotics for his chest and signed off work so he could rest.

Me (a woman). Came down with the same thing. Told to drink plenty of fluid and take Paracetamol if I needed to.

A male friend of mine was given antibiotics for a swelling in his ankle “just in case” there was an infection.

Me. I went to the GP with a bladder infection after over the counter meds weren’t working. At first the receptionist refused to give me an appointment. The week after I saw a nurse who told me “youre a woman, its what we have to deal with” and sent me on my way. 5 days after I booked an emergency appointment with a GP who tried to prescribe me ANXIETY MEDS!! That night I was rushed into hospital with fucking sepsis….

A male friend of mine. Went to the GP because of his depression and anxiety. Was prescribed meds and referred to the mental health team for possible therapy.

A female friend of mine. Went to the GP because of her anxiety. Was told to try yoga….

  4. Doctor that has to work with them calls for the role to be abolished.

They can’t even prescribe paracetamol and start on 15k a year more than doctors with less than half the training. It’s an absolutely pointless role
