When even your middle classes are shoplifting, you know shits bad.
Well that explains why I couldn’t find any celeriac remoulade and pink champagne
‘People can’t afford food and are resorting to shoplifting’ – Says Waitrose
How awful. Does anyone know how these are organised so I can avoid them?
> Data, analysed by the BBC, shows shoplifting offences **have returned to pre-pandemic levels** as the cost of living rises.
I think the real story here is that the levels have just got back to their normal pre-Covid levels rather than seeing a sharp rise, despite the enormous cost of living issues that we’re all seeing.
The headline makes it sound like there’s been some kind of dramatic increase when we’ve actually just seen it get back to normal!
I find that it has come across the pond whereas shoplifting was seen as a social no no. Now it is so blatant that I’m shopping (not in Waitrose) but people are just grabbing a bunch of stuff and walking out. This has been happening with food, clothes etc so I would say it’s on the rise but people don’t even hide it anymore and staff aren’t gonna risk getting stabbed for minimum wage
Love how the picture is someone knicking a bottle of fizz and not essentials to feed their family.
>”These high levels of theft cost retailers almost £1bn in 2021/22, **money that would be better used to reduce prices** and invest in a better customer experience.”
lol, lmao even
You know in the case of Waitrose if they actually reduced stuff by more than 4p it’ll mean yellow label products would be more affordable for customers, they cut down on food waste and still make a few quid as a result.
Isn’t this the gig-economy at work? Shows you once again that Rishi’s government is achieving its goals!
