  1. Still waiting for mine. I’m sure it’ll be among the national average.

    BAHAHAHAHA

I’d genuinely be surprised at anything more than like 3%.

  2. It’s a bit of a kick in the teeth having news like this chucked in your face when myself & almost everyone I know is hanging on by a thread.

I can genuinely only think of one or two people in my circle who aren’t skint by the third week of each month & most are working full time in what would have been quite well paid jobs 15 years ago.

  3. I feel like using average is misleading. Seems like rich people getting richer drives up the average. While everyone else gets shafted

  4. Whos wage? Genuine question. Who is getting these wage rises and how?

Is this mean, median, or mode average wages? Because each of those will tell you a different story about the overall state of wages in this country.

If I had to guess, I would wager pretty heavily that it’s the mean steady wage that has gone up, and the figure is HEAVILY skewed by top earners, not by your majority by a long shot.

It feels like I’m going insane. Being told that I’m simultaneously richer than I’ve ever been and also poorer than I’ve ever been at once.

  5. Currently any pay increase is totally demolished by the inflation increase / cost of living

“Yay I’m getting £300/month more …… but my bills have gone up by £250/month and my rent has gone up £400/m”

  6. Doubtless we will now here the “higher wages are driving inflation argument”…forgetting that bigger wage rises are happening because the inflation came first

  7. I encourage everyone to speak to their boss and ask for a wage increase. Too often people say they are waiting for theirs, however, whilst slightly frustrating, you sometimes just need to ask.

Collect evidence, justify your pay increase, and any level-headed boss will seriously consider it, especially if you’re a good employee. Recruitment is one of the top concerns for businesses right now, just before inflation, so companies want to keep good staff.
