I have written this open letter to express my deep concern regarding the recent attempt by the EU to normalize the scanning of all our personal chats. I am gravely troubled by this intrusion into our privacy, which I consider both unacceptable and a violation of our rights, particularly when conducted without a court order.
The trust I once had in the security of my private conversations has been shattered. I have always believed that my chats remained confidential, but now I find myself questioning who else has access to them and how they might be exploiting that information.
I urge for an immediate halt to the scanning of our personal chats and a respectful recognition of our right to privacy. It is crucial that we can engage in conversations with our friends, family, colleagues, and partners without constantly fearing surveillance or the potential misuse of our discussions against us.
Let us stand together to protect our fundamental rights and ensure that our personal chats remain private and secure. Our privacy should not be compromised in the name of security, and we must advocate for a balanced approach that respects both our safety and our individual freedoms.

If your communication is not end-to-end encrypted, you should’ve never considered it to be private in the first place.
Newsflash- pretty much all “free” services are keyword scanned. Gmail, hotmail, social media, etc. If you don’t pay anything, YOU are are product. For the most part, no one is reading your private life with any attention to context. If you say “pregnant” anywhere, you are sure to see baby product ads or insurance ads, for example.
