So I finally got my student residence permit from the Berlin Immigration Office today, but am a little bit confused coz things turn out quite different from the book.

1. My residence permit is a sticker on my passport. But according to [this article](https://www.personalausweisportal.de/Webs/PA/EN/citizens/electronic-residence-title/electronic-residence-title-node.html) on the interior ministry website, it should be a card with the eID function, which is also what I heard from my friends. I asked a staffer on the spot (in English), but they simply replied that ‘no it’s not a card’ without further explanation. Is this sticker sufficient, or must I apply for an electronic one/card later?
2. I applied for a residence permit lasting for two years (from 22 to 24, when I’m supposed to graduate). Surprisingly I found out that the one I got is good until 31 Dec **2026**. I also confirmed with the said staffer, and they said it was not a mistake. Is this some kind of bonus for students (like a post-study work visa)? Does it mean I can actually stay for 2 more years after graduation?

PS. I have a British passport if that matters.

TYIA!

  1. 1. Unless it’s changed, they’re both equally valid. Sticker is just more annoying.
    2. No, your permit still expires once your reason for it is no longer valid. My guess is that if you take an extra semester or two, they don’t want to deal with you needing a new permit.
