  1. Germany’s government will Thursday unveil its first China strategy as part of an effort to ramp up pressure on companies to “de-risk” and reduce dependencies on Beijing.

The strategy, which is planned to be adopted by Cabinet and presented to the public on Thursday, is eagerly awaited as politicians and businesses across Europe and beyond are keen to see how the EU’s biggest economy is re-positioning itself regarding the economically important but increasingly assertive China.

The strategy will send out a signal “that we are not naive,” German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock told reporters Wednesday on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius.

  2. Right, i’ll believe it when i see it. Not trusting german government to do something without it being stuck in a bureacratic hell for 10 years

  3. While they *should* do this, it will not happen. Their whole economy rely on china, if higher energy prices was a knife in the side of the german industry, reduced reliance on China will be the deathblow.

  4. My prediction it will be better than nothing but still rather weak

  5. Telling companies to lose money by not trading in China is a silly policy. It actually flies in the face of all theories of trade (natural advantage and so on). As such, it is going to fail. In the process, of course, Germany will increase its distance from France, choosing an “Atlaticist” route for its external policy. Scholz and company are determined to have US lead in the “security” front and even follow the US policies in the Pacific (where Germany probably has no interests). This also means giving candy to Erdogan…. I am starting to miss Merkel, at least she had some minimal common sense.

  6. It will be big once the entire democratic world develops a unified China strategy, recognizing them as a threat.

  7. Thought the headline was, “Germany will adopt China.”

That’s a lot of kids to take care of.
