Not as good as it sounds, the money is coming from existing budgets meaning more internal cuts will take place to pay for it and probably fuel staff turnover. However, it’s either that or inflationary spending. Tricky.
This is the Tories acknowledging their time in office is done for the foreseeable future and handing a big inflationary problem to Labour.
None of this extra money is coming from borrowing or from tax rises, so where the hell is it going to come from?

Why does the headline not mention that it will come from existing budgets… It’s going to take away from other areas, especially school support workers etc
The money for this is going to be taken out of other areas of funding for public services making the services worse giving the illusion that the public service is poor
Is that 6.5% instead of or on top of the 5% increase to nhs staff already awarded?
It’s a pay cut – but still much better than I was expecting.
What about Other public sector workers porters cleaners security admin staff get a grip if they can afford to Give MP (there all as bad as each other) then give all ordinary people a decent pay rise political parties are pure evil
So massive cuts to public services to fund below inflation pay rises.
