  1. Not a petition, just trying to make sure this doesn’t end up disappearing from people’s minds for years like with PFOS in Antwerp.

TL;DR a textile factory near Ghent is leaking more chemicals into the water than they should. Because they can’t find the source of the leak, they would like to have the legal limit changed for a few years until they can fix things. Gents Milieufront is against changing the limit.

  2. One would think that if you can’t find and fix your leak, you shut the place down untill you can meet legal requirements…not just raise legal requirements and call it a win

  3. Hoe zou de grens terug naar 9 microgram op trekken zelfs helpen als ze met een uitstoot van 22 microgram zitten? Dat is er nog altijd ver boven.

  4. Yikes, large apolar molecule like that is not going to bio degrade any time soon. As an academic chemist it’s sometimes crazy to see what corporations can leak while the academic world tries it’s best to change the image people have of chemistry.

  5. The production and use of nonylphenol and nonylphenol ethoxylates is prohibited in the European Union due to its effects on health and the environment.
They are used extensively in epoxy formulation in North America but its use has been phased out in Europe.

So why are they using it in Ghent?
