Rehash of everything r/Ukraine is already quite well informed on. Glad to see it’s going to the wide audience at NYT.
Allowing Russia additional time and space for Russia to abuse and murder Ukrainian civilians is the main drawback of Biden’s strategy, which is otherwise well-devised to…
1. maximally attrit Russia (had Biden more quickly escalated, Russia might have withdrawn earlier and conserved more of their force-projection capabilities)
2. minimize nuclear escalation risks,
3. minimize US costs (most equipment, aside from Javelins, has already been retired)
4. provide space for Republicans to take a more hawkish stance supporting Ukraine
Washington has stated they don’t want to overthrow Moscow. Washington likely actually prefers continuity of Russia’s government (though the FSB may replace Putin) since…
1. a Russian successor regime may be more antagonistic
2. a Russian civil war increases risks of nuclear proliferation
3. a fractured Russia provides China more leverage to enroach on Russian territory and solidify access to resources
Perhaps, Russia has been sufficiently attritted at this point that Biden can now rapidly escalate. I hope so, in order to lessen Ukrainian suffering. In my view, pushing Russia out of Crimea is important to reduce Russian control over the Black Sea.
Absolutely Ukraine is sacrificing for us! 🇺🇦
All of Europe’s militaries are basically built to counter the threat of aggression from the Russian dictatorship.
If Ukraine is brave enough to take them on there is nothing we shouldn’t give them for as long as it takes.
The entire civilized world stands with Ukraine. Russia is begging Iran and North Korea for old dusty ammo (who don’t even accept roubles, LOL). The west can play this game a lot longer than Russia.
But we should help Ukraine achieve a speedy victory wherever possible!
Well in the long yes but for Europe he’ll yes.
In every sense, yes. Wish we were doing more to help them. Average Americans don’t know what is at stake… This is a battle for the future of democracy, freedom, human rights – and ultimately it’s the battle to *prevent* more world wars. Dictators have to learn that they will lose. Every. Single. Time.
💯
It is a fact. They should not be but they are.
need to open up the scope and look at the much bigger picture – this is a battle of good vs evil – we simply have to ask ourselves which side are we on – after that everything falls into place.
For those of us that choose to be on the side of good – supporting Ukraine with all we have is the only thing that matters.
