>Early results of a 2019/20 Afrobarometer survey, a research network that measures public attitudes in Africa, show that 59% of respondents think China’s economic and political influence is mostly positive – compared with 46% for former colonial powers.

At the forum, President Xi Jinping announced China will direct a quarter of its IMF pandemic recovery boost to African countries – a more generous reallocation than any OECD country.
Well call me surprised. Not long ago our great great grandfathers used to whip the skin off their backs and now we go there expecting them to trust us. Plus let’s not forget how EU kept Africa poor for decades, so now wonder now that they want nothing to do with us.
This project proposed by the EU seems to have been made in very bad faith as a direct response to Chinese investment and doesn’t even try to hide it. Who wouldn’t take issue with such a project being proposed should it involve them in some way?
I wish Africans best luck with their new Chinese friends.
Would it really be that bad for us if we cut most of our funding to African countries? The opinion about the EU seems to be generally low anyway. Wouldn’t we better off helping the ones who are actually friendly and stop throwing money at the others?
If I were an African national and I felt that way, genuinely felt that way, I’d probably apply for asylum in China rather than Europe… if Europeans are untrustworthy when they are in my country, why would Europeans be trustworthy when I’m in their country. China, here I come!
If you don’t trust us stop immigrating to Europe and go to China!
“While China has roads, bridges and dams to show for its 20-year-engagement with Africa, they say, the EU brings red tape and a lecture.”

It’s good to be skeptical in general. Play them against each other and get the best rate for yourself.
