What the fuck is wrong with people? Seems like a war against cyclists sometimes, it really does.
Considering the intent, people who do this should be genuinely tried with attempted murder.
Surely this is more news worthy than a cyclist accidentally killing a pedestrian…
If there was a police force left, they could test for dna on the wire, barbed wire is a shithouse to work with.

This’ll be someone who lives really nearby and hates seeing cyclists in “their” park.
They may have complained to park authorities or the police about it before or they’ll be outspoken about their hatred of it.

I ended up sliced not quite as badly as that 25 years ago – luckily the barbed wire caught my chest first before cutting into my neck. These days I just have a white scar all the way across my throat at an angle.
It was terrifying at the time, and it messed me up to some extent mentally for quite a while. Right after it happened I was taken to A&E, covered in blood but more in shock.
The police really didn’t take it seriously at all at the time, hopefully things have changed.

Planned attempted murder isn’t it? Big investigation surely? Starting with property owners if the route crosses any private land. Get a warrant to search their house for matching wire asap. All that kind of stuff.
This is honestly a very serious crime. He said the barbed wire snapped, imagine if it was a bit tougher and he was going a bit faster? Or if it hit his eyes or something?
Instead of sending an officer to have a quick look around and conclude there’s not enough evidence can we get some decent police investigation into this as a very serious crime, possibly attempted murder related?

Will the police do anything? In this case the cyclist wasn’t breaking the law I’m guessing, but many other cases of insane vigilantism happen because the police do nothing, even when reported to.
Had a patient in Australia years ago who hit fishing line. Transected his trachea which is rare in the extreme. He survived but only just. This is out and out wrong.
We had some asshole using super high tensile strength fishing line here in Maine. I believe it was because atv riders were riding through his land. No one died but some guy riding a dirt bike got thrown from his ride when it caught him across the chest. If it was someone shorter it could have been real bad.
That’s gonna sting when he gets in the bath! Joking aside, when riding downhill you need your focus on the trail so even if no more of these traps are set, by making riders put their attention elsewhere in looking out for potential traps the trails have been made more dangerous and whoever has done this should be strung up.
If the perp is caught, they need to be tried and sentenced for attempted murder. Really need to make an example of this person.
