The world’s first octopus farm – should it go ahead? | Cephalopods would receive little protection under current EU law covering farm animal welfare

  1. If we go by intelligence, we should eat fewer octopi and more dogs. But I think we will go with how easy it is to project human emotion on their faces. Doesn’t matter if your species can do math, unless it can make a face like it’s laughing, we will eat it.

  2. I am for animal rights all along and I support animals being held humanely on farms, but even if a piglet looks super cute, I know the taste which is awesome.

Does that make me cruel? No. I know a farmer where the animals do live happily. Well, until slaughtered, of course.

If at all, the conditions on those farms have to be as natural and stress-free as possible. To change that it’s up to me to buy just high-quality meat even it’s more expensive.

And I barely eat meat. But once every two weeks I treat me to some high quality beef/poultry/pork.

  3. I follow the policy that I should probably not eat something thats smarter than the majority of my clients. I have seen octopuses solve logic puzzles that said clients would just stare at, all baffled….

  4. In some parts of the world, octopuses are a natural part of the diet. In Portugal, we eat them a lot, like once or twice a week.

Not sure if a future ban on cooking would be well received here.
    Same goes with squids.

But at least we don’t eat them raw and alive like in Japan.

(not expressing an opinion, just throwing in a fact)
