Good
Does somebody know what the exact reasoning behind this veto from Austria is?
And do the Austrians support this decision too?

This seems like a stretch. Also it can set a very dangerous precedent, where a country’s veto can be overruled by some bs reasons.
Austria is too much like Russia for my liking, they need to be watched closely and investigated thoroughly
I disagree with Austria’s and my own government’s (Netherlands) stances on Schengen expansion. Schengen is not perfect, but given where we already are and have been for a long time I cannot frame their position in a better light than “arbitrary” — and worse descriptors are easily thought of.
However this is not the way to practice European politics. Going outside the intended box and trying to force a decision by using a blatantly unintended consequence of a law (assuming the courts even agree) is very destructive to popular support for EU institutions. International agreements depend on reasonable good faith interpretations, not “gotchas” found in fine print.
This can destroy the EU. If we get rid of uninimety we might as whell close shop.
