>It will also set out a plan for linking the three airports in Northern Ireland to rail networks. Dublin Airport will have to rely on the construction of the Metrolink in the 2030s as there is no rail network nearby.
No mention in the article of Shannon, which is supposed to get a connection to the town at least under LSMATS, but the NI stuff is interesting. Complaints about Dublin Airport not having a connection are very common, but in many ways the situation in Northern Ireland is much crazier. You have active rail lines running by Derry City Airport and Belfast City, with no proper connection to the airports (indeed, no station for Derry Airport at all). Belfast International has a disused railway line nearby, which would also connect a good few small towns.
They can feck off with giving Donegal a train, they don’t deserve one.
Lmao as if any of that will happen in our life time.
Been over 24 years since the metro got planning permission…what makes you think they could have high speed rail any time in the next 50 years…
God that’d be such bliss 🚂 Could they have a test of the system first maybe, by glueing down a working track between Cork and Kilkenny that doesnt involve a stop in Dublin, Tralee, or Sligo, perhaps? 😕)
