Has anyone read this? The main offender sounds like a complete psychopath, cut off a guy’s ear *and* stabbed him with a scissors, as well as keeping him hostage and continuing to torture him.
Eight and a half years, so he’ll be out in four give or take. Do you think this sentence will be appealed? It seems very low for what was a protracted, sadistic assault.

Holy fuck. Should it not be a psych ward this crettin is sent to. One with padded walls and no windows. And after a 2 years, accidentally drop a knife in the room when taking out his dinner tray.
Phone charger in a mouth? This just screams “I don’t know what I’m doing, but I just watched Reservoir Dogs last and I will see what I have in my car.”
Ye’re all forgetting that he had a better understanding of the harm he had caused and was remorseful and sorry for what he did.

The man was cut and bleeding, and the injured party told them to leave him alone. It was at this point that Quirke and the others turned on the injured party.
Quirke hit the victim in the face with a vodka bottle and split his lip. Quirke ordered the others to join, and one hit the injured party on the head with a vodka bottle.
The court heard that Quirke told one of the men to get a scissors and said he would show them “how to cut someone up”.
The injured party was then held in a sitting position, and Quirke began to cut his ear off with the scissors.
The injured party was still being hit while this was happening.
Quirke also ordered the others to take part in the ear cutting.
A second pair of scissors was then produced, and the injured party was stabbed in the body by the group.
The court was told the man was then brought to the bathroom and forced into the bath, which was then filled with water.
Quirke forced a phone charger into the injured party’s mouth and pushed the cord down the man’s throat. He was also struck with the toilet cistern.
The court heard the man was stabbed with a broken vodka bottle and scissors in the head, legs and chest. During this assault, the injured party passed in and out of consciousness.
Quirke also told the injured party that he was “going to die”. One of the other men said, “I have never killed anyone before”, with Quirke replying, “I will show you how.”
The injured party managed to leave his house about 9am. A neighbour was sitting outside her house and saw the injured party collapsing on the ground.
He was covered in blood, which his neighbour described as “gushing out of him”. The woman called an ambulance.”

So basically if the victim didn’t manage to escape we’d be dealing with someone essentially tortured to death and in classic nolan style, he gives a disgracefully low sentence.
Why is remorse accepted as a mitigating factor? Who gives a shit if you regret it, you do the crime you do the time!
Jesus fucking Christ. For anyone who hasn’t read the article, this little piece of shit tortured a man, had him held down, cut off part of his ear with a scissors, attempted to drown him and shoved a phone charger down his throat.
He should be in jail for 20+ years. He shouldn’t be allowed near other people unsupervised until he’s about 40. The other scumbags with him should be getting at least 10 years.
Naturally he has 27 prior convictions and naturally he will be out in 3 years (he got an 8.5 year sentence). This is a fucking horror show, anything goes in this state
