Today is the first time I came across this seemingly important Council of several Orthodox Churches at İstanbul (Constantinople or Konstantiniye at the time).
Given the 1923 being a very close date to several important events such as The Turkish Independence War and Russian Revolution (It seems many Russian Representatives were present in the council, I am guessing they were refugees of the Russian civil war at the time) was this council related to the historical developments of the time period? I didnt find many English sources on the details but it seems it caused huge divisions and controversies within the orthodox church. What were the controversial topics? And what were the divisions it had with other patriarchies such as the ones remained in Jerussalem or Alexandria, whom seem to did not recognize this council?
Are there any political historians or theokogical historians that can explain tvmhis whole council meeting for me. And maybe can you guys explain to me how the İstanbul patriarchy is seen as an institution by Greek churches in general?
Thank you in advance.
Kindly, from the collapsing country situated right next to you.
