  1. *Those working in a shortage occupation can be paid 80% of the job’s going rate and still get a skilled worker visa.* More cheap, foreign workers to keep wages low.

  2. We will have these shortages forever unless we actually start helping young people into the trades again. It’s ridiculous how we are still in a position where young the majority of young people are told that university is their only option. We are losing so many potential tradesmen because they have the most basic maths and English skills so they are deemed “too smart” for the trades. It’s ridiculous

  3. What’s the going rate for a roofer these days? Been thinking of moving back from Nz for a while but not sure if it’s worth it

  4. Well we can replace the polish tradesmen with Indians and Pakistanis now. Brexit bonus.

I’ve seen the amazing work builders, plumbers, and electricians do in those countries.

  5. Excellent. Now all we need is Starmer’s planning reform and this country can start building again.

  6. When are we going to start training our own young people to be doctors/nurses/builders/plumbers/lorry drivers/fruit pickers (preferably simultaneously) rather than doing whatever job they are currently doing.

That will fill the skills shortage!
