Hi.

I never heard of this TV series before. Blindboy Boatclub mentioned it on his podcast so I made a [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskIreland/comments/15140ui/any_place_to_watch_the_rte_tv_series_hands/) to try to find it. I watched a few episodes and have to say, they’re excellent.

If anyone would like to see it, check these.

  1. Ah, another generation discovers *Hands*.

This was a series made in the 1970s and 80s to make a record of skills that were dying out *then*. Well worth a look, some of these may become relevant again in an organic, carbon neutral world.

  2. Hands is as interesting for the remnants of lost Ireland as the crafts.

Even at the time it was clear that the country was rapidly modernising and losing a lot of its history. Life wasn’t easy before we had machines, can say that much.

  3. This is where i turn into me aul lad….i remember smithfield when it was cobbled n horses n carts delivered stuff in the city

  4. Hands was beautifully made and with a care that reflected the craftspeople it showcased.

    A really wonderful tv show.

  5. Great series
The Tailors shop in Tullow, Carlos looked the same when I padded it 15 years ago.

  6. The hurling episode is amazing, even features a young Brian Cody!
