Is it really this bad? I know my local club is bad for it, hell can’t even go for a quite mid week pint without the boys getting on the bag but I live in Derry and just assumed it was confined to inner city areas.

  1. Cocaine is in every social event/gathering above 10 people.

  2. It’s rife in society as a whole, I’ve lost quite a few friends to it, not through death but many of them can’t enjoy a night out without gear. It effectively outcasted me from a few of my best friends. I was lonely for a bit but found a new group outside of the GAA club, best thing for my own mental health looking back.

  3. It’s in every social setting these days.

Much more than during the boom where it was generally contained to the cities and large urban areas.

Now it’s available in essentially every village in the country.

  4. If the gaa want to tackle this implement random
Drug testing at a county level then senior club etc.

  5. Never in a golf club. Or a rugby club. Or a sailing club. Oh no. /s

  6. It’s practically everywhere. Hell I know lads who go out for the crack. Apparently a few pints just aren’t enough these days.

  7. I don’t know about the cocaine in the local club, but I know that encouraging the less athletic kids is not prioritised at the local GAA Cul Camp. My eight year old is definitely not a natural, but he loves going to training and meeting his friends and was really looking forward to Cul camp. Today, all the boys except him were moved to a different group and his week at Cul camp is to be spent as the only boy training along with about 20 girls while all his friends are in a different group (mixed boys and girls).

  8. >and just assumed it was confined to inner city areas.

It seems to be everywhere. It should be no surprise that some people in GAA clubs (or any clubs) are taking it.

  9. Just legalise it already and then the country can make money on it

  10. Back in my you get days we would pop a pill or get a bag every couple of weekends just for the laugh. These days there’s people doing come sitting at home alone on a Tuesday night, it’s fucking desperate.

I know my own club won a senior championship not to long ago and a dealer friend of mine said it was the busiest night he has ever had.

8 players from my club refused county call ups and it was rumoured that the potential for testing at senior intercounty level was the reason.

Now the parents of these lads have fairly quietened their coughs calling those who smoke a bit weed scumbags. …..

  11. GAA are considering renaming headquarters as Coke Park…

  12. The best thing I did was a heap of coke back when I was 20.. I got in and out before it became mainstream and now at 33 want no part of the stuff!

  13. Its absolutely ubiquitous in Limerick anyway. I can’t say for the whole country but if he is seeing what I see then I can understand how he thinks its every club. Pretty much anywhere there is drink there is white and if yer ever getting green its readily available too

  14. Is society really that depressed, that they need a bag of coke now to have a good night out?
