Most people in UK support two-week lockdown to combat omicron, poll suggests

  1. The only way a two week lockdown would work would be to shut down literally *everything*. Don’t see it happening somehow.

  2. Yes let’s force eveyone to undergo a 2 week lockdown despite this situation being caused by the selfish people refusing vaccinations and massive underfunding of the NHS.

I honestly haven’t seen really anything to suggest Omicron is anything like Delta, and even if it was our vaccine uptake is so much better than it was and deaths are pretty much consistently very low. Know what I support? A prohibition on the willingly unvaccinated from accessing amenities, a free pass for foreign health workers to immigrate and drastically more funding for the NHS.

  3. Seems hard to believe that people would be supporting ruining Christmas (which a two week period of severe restrictions would obviously entail at this point), unless those people were also planning on ignoring the rules for their own Christmas plans.

  4. Cases are up but deaths and hospitalisations are not. Vaccines and boosters show that you can still catch and pass on covid but your symptoms will be less severe. Interested to see what % of those in hospital with (and receiving treatment for) covid are unvaxxed. I’m not going through another 4 month lockdown because feckless idiots aren’t getting vaccinated.

  5. I’d much rather we crack down on the *one in five* in London who can’t be arsed getting vaccinated. Fucking bonkers.

  6. The public haven’t got a fucking clue about epidemiology. That has been proven conclusively in the last 2 years. I’ll trust the country’s leading medical and scientific minds, using the latest data modeling software and information the public doesn’t have access to. The way some morons on here go on, you’d think the government wants people dead.

  7. There is a rift between government employees who are happy to continue lockdowns as are not financially affected (Paid no matter they work or not) and ppl who actually work for leaving.

  8. 2 weeks is no where near long enough now. We had the chance during first lockdown, should’ve locked down longer, CUmmings fucked it up, track and trace was abysmal, stopping and quarantining at airports was shit. 2 weeks of lockdown now would just make everyone fucking miserable and piss off the whole country. Reap what you sow you fucking tory fucks and you anti-vax wankers.

  9. Fully vaxxed but no way would I support another widespread lockdown.

Instead, lockdown the unvaccinated, use covid pass so vaccinated people can check in places and get on with their lives. Covid is something we have to live with now, and if the vaccines are doing their job then let those that have had them have their freedom and make life difficult for the others (obviously allowing for genuine medical exemptions).

  10. But wasn’t the reason they were done away with because they were ineffective? The only form of lockdown that actually did something was the long term lockdowns, but that has very negative impacts on everyone.

2 weeks will do fuck all to the numbers

  11. “51%”.

And who’d you poll? I don’t get why they don’t do these polls through the TV somehow. That would get a much better coverage. Are people working busy jobs/who are out the house a lot of the day or working nights or lates answering these polls? I guess the answer’s a massive “NO”.

No comment on lockdown, just saying.

  12. Fuck that. No lockdown. I’ve done everything asked and the data isn’t there. Look outside of covid and see the damage another lockdown will do.

  13. BJ to be like omg fine I guess if that’s what YOU guys want then fine sure ok wow chill out, pretty weird you’re so incessant.

  14. People have been conditioned to see lockdowns as a normal part of life rather than a final measure. What a terrible way to live.

  15. Where are all these people? Because most of the people I speak to about it, which is a pretty broad demographic, are completely passed caring about so called ‘covid’. The possibility of another lockdown is unthinkable to them; they will not do it.

  16. This couldn’t be less correct for my circle.

The mismanagement and incompetence of the government unfortunately means that for most 20-30yos that I know any measures will be largely ignored.

I know plenty of people who have gone from following all the recs and rules to being borderline anti vax.

I’ll still continue to get all the boosters but I just don’t see the government as having the moral authority to impose a lockdown anymore.

  17. Only the wilfully unvaccinated should be put in lock down. Everybody else should be permitted to go about their business. I’m fed up with doing the right thing only for antivaxx small brained morons to fuck it up for the rest of us.
