Viking Link joins UK and Denmark power grids for first time

  1. That’s pretty fantastic, such a long distance. Does anyone know what the magnitude of power losses would be like over this link? Or I guess more importantly, how big of a difference in electricty price would there have to be between the UK and Denmark for it be profitable to use the cable?

I’m guessing the winds in Denmark and the winds in the UK are relatively uncorrelated so hopefully this adds some grid stability.

  2. > “Interconnectors bring huge benefits to the UK, acting as clean energy super-highways, allowing us to move surplus green energy from where it is generated to where it is needed the most.”

Lol so much bullshit in this, Denmark with just a fraction better CO2/kWh than the UK where the real “green” energy from Norway and Sweden flows to Denmark which cables always are maxed out anyways. Germany will be able to export more coal though.

UK’s and Denmark’s wind production and won’t be producing when the other isn’t either. More interconnectors are the right way to go but these false statements are just cringe at this point.

  3. So a net importer of electricity is connecting to another net importer of electricity, how nice.
