Yeah, it was really interesting reading the different headlines this morning. Irishtimes went with the really shock factor headline. RTE’s Will Goodbody wrote a much more nuanced article. Irishtimes really disappointing but I suppose clicks are their bottom line.
None of the headlines state these are figures from 2019, four years ago. So the study doesn’t take into account affects of the pandemic, the cost of living crisis, the rampant price gouging, the worsening housing crisis etc. Things have gone steadily downhill since this report. Government putting out the illusion that things aren’t as bad as they seem.

That said, the analysis also found that middle to higher income renters in this country are more likely to face high housing costs than their European counterparts.
Seems to be the reason why.
