Rant incoming.
As someone who works in an iGaming company with an RG/SG background, this is so mind baffling to me.
Not sure if they are promoting gambling/ casino gaming between minors, or saying that video games are bad?
It’s sad imo that an NGO that is supposed to bring awareness on gambling harms, is focusing on the wrong aspect of responsible gambling/gaming, as far as i know video games have nothing to do with RG or gambling disorders.
Idk what you guys think, when i saw this I was kinda shocked on how little Maltese actually know when it comes to RG.

hahah this is indeed ridiculous and goes to show how serious this whole gambling industry is in this country.
their mission statement literally focuses only on gambling: “To create a wider awareness of the extent, possible causes and consequences of problem gaming in Malta with a view to preventing it and to provide the necessary support and advice to problem gamblers and their dependents in their recovery efforts. ”
Also what a stupid picture even if it were to be relevant for video games. If you’re feeding your child a takeaway pizza, with scattered M&Ms, and red bull as the drink, and potato chips as a side snack, you’ve got bigger problems than a video game.
Certain video games do have gambling in them.
Fifa is a notorious example of gambling in game to get the players you want.
Gacha games on phone where you either grind for in game resources to roll for characters/items or outright pay with money for the chance (keyword) to get what you want.
Then there’s also the topic of lootboxes, again gambling for the chance to to get something specific.
There have been reports in Britain of people developing or worsening a gambling addiction because of FIFA.
There’s games with gambling in them, counter strike loot boxes for example, but yeah this is fucking stupid
It tfal kif trabbihom u trid tifqilhom.
It’s also a recurrent problem with the overall messaging. Call gambling what it is—gambling—not this gaming nonsense. Gambling is not gaming. Calling gambling ‘gaming’ or ‘iGaming’ is just whitewashing, and the foundation is taking part in it by using that name.
As someone who too works in iGaming, I’d like to believe that they know the difference. Their mission statement seems to distinguish between the two though at a glance, I can’t see anything related to ‘video games’ apart from a link to a newspaper article.
>The Foundation aims to create a broader awareness of the possible causes and consequences of excessive gambling and/or **excessive gaming**, to promote responsibility and provide the necessary support and advice to problem gamblers and/or problem gamers with their dependents in their recovery efforts.
Probably they just don’t want to be seen, by the powers that be, undermining what is after all a major pillar of our economy whether you like it or not, if that makes any sense. It’s either that or to cite an analogy, they simply cannot differentiate between blockchain and Bitcoin.
This is actually embarrassing
I think there’s a company called Gluecksfall that focuses on gambling addictions.
