Amongst the many nationalities fighting to defend Ukraine, there is a unit of ethnic Bashkirs: Rota Bashkort. They fight both for the freedom of Ukraine & the end of the Russian Empire, as their long term aim is the liberation of Bashkortostan, their homeland.

   The above video is a montage of photos and videos posted by the unit so far, made by a supporter of the unit & posted by the unit themselves.

   Rota Bashkort is a unit of ethnic Bashkirs & others from Bashkortostan in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The size of the unit is unknown, but when they opened up applications to join, they received enough responses to form a whole battalion in just the first few days.

   Bashkortostan is one of many “ethnic republics” throughout Russia. The population is mostly ethnic Bashkir and Tatar, with a large ethnic Russian population as well. Bashkortostan has seen a growing separatist movement over recent years, and this growth has only accelerated following the events of February 2022. Rota Bashkort see themselves as one of the first steps towards a future independent Bashkortostan, free of Russian control.
