I do not like Nigel Farage. In fact, I despise Nigel Farage.
With that said, I DO think that people should have a right to a bank account. They are essential to operating in every day life, and even if you’re a murderer who has been released from prison, you should be legally protected in being allowed to have a bank account so that you can be a member of society. The same goes for people SUSPECTED of criminal activity, money laundering etc. Private businesses should not be able to completely shut down your life. It is not the place of private companies to act as the arbiters of justice, especially when the services they provide are critical to an acceptable standard of living. (Banking, power, water, internet access, food, transport etc).
Today it is Nigel Farage. There will come a day where this is someone you like. Someone you agree with, who has beliefs that you support. The head of extinction rebellion, for example.
I’m aware that this bank account was a wealth management account, and there probably isn’t a right to have one of these. I don’t innately have an issue with that – It’s a specialised service and product and they should be able to choose who they do business with. The problem is, they lied and this was made public. It was an inevitable outcome. It’s also deeply hypocritical, because there are LOTS of their customers who will have ethically questionable reasons for being wealthy. In short, the bank fucked up.
Rightly so. This kind of thing is all very disturbing and needs to be stamped out before it catches on.
Looks like the pressure from Braverman and Sunak finally won out and he got the measly apology he was looking for. Still no Coutts account for him though, boo hoo hoo.

As far as I’m concerned, the only appropriate comments towards Farage are along the lines of “Fuck off, you cunt”
The letter is written well. Fair play to Alison. NatWest is aware how much PR damage this row can cause, so they are enacting damage control ASAP.
I do believe that banks should always be forced to provide a reason for account closure.
Isn’t it crazy how people on this subreddit were adamant nothing happened and he was lying. Purely because they don’t like Farage. Baffling.

They offered him a different Nat West bank account. I really dont think people have looked into this other than listening to the surface outrage. I know he shouts very loudly, but you need to read around more than the nonsense he spouts.
