Translations/origin of the word ‘war’ and the phrase ‘we want peace’

  1. Želimo mir is more like we wish for peace in Slovenian. Hočemo would be we want.

  2. Interesting that Iceland uses *Strið*, which means *battle/fight* in the other Scandinavian languages. *Warship* in Swedish is *Örlogsfartyg*, which must be a loanword from Dutch?

  3. I think the Russian word for war is “Special military operation”. Otherwise nice map.

  4. I know the native English word for peace is either ‘frith’ or ‘grith’ – but what’s the native English word for war? I can find a couple for battle (‘gouth’ (like ‘loud’ not ‘couth’ from what I can tell)) and ‘bade’).
