I am ltalian and in ltaly, as in Denmark, there is no minimum wage.
We use union contracts, just like in Denmark, however lately there has been talk of introducing a minimum wage in ltaly.
The current center-right government is against it, because it claims that national contracts are okay. However, only 85% of workers are covered by national contracts, in fact there are many cases of “legalized” exploitation because of this. For example, a private guard in a cooperative often earns only €5 before tax per hour (37dkk), this causes a lot of exploitation.
P.S. The average wage in ltaly is around €9 per hour before tax (67dkk).
What do you think of national contracts? Would you prefer the minimum wage in Denmark? I, in ltaly, would like the minimum wage because it would be an important stretch of protection.
