What do you think of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and his quote about Cyprus?

  2. Well, he was talking about the British Empire which yeah, fuck them, and I doubt this was about Greece. If he did indeed say this, from what I’ve found it’s from 1937, 3 years after the signing of [the Balkan Pact](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkan_Pact) & only a year before the [Salonika Agreement](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salonika_Agreement#Terms), basically at the height of Turkish-Greek relations.

    Would he have preferred Cyprus be in his hands over Greece? Very likely yes, but he probably would’ve preferred it be Greek over British either way, so I doubt he had Greece in his mind if he ever said this.

    In 193x Cyprus was under British occupation, and this quote was addressing Brits, not Cypriots.
