Well, he was talking about the British Empire which yeah, fuck them, and I doubt this was about Greece. If he did indeed say this, from what I’ve found it’s from 1937, 3 years after the signing of [the Balkan Pact](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkan_Pact) & only a year before the [Salonika Agreement](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salonika_Agreement#Terms), basically at the height of Turkish-Greek relations.
Would he have preferred Cyprus be in his hands over Greece? Very likely yes, but he probably would’ve preferred it be Greek over British either way, so I doubt he had Greece in his mind if he ever said this.
The deeper you go to the history, the more radical things you’ll read. Don’t.
In 193x Cyprus was under British occupation, and this quote was addressing Brits, not Cypriots.
